The Village Pubs
Today I explored parts of the Greenwich Village area of Manhattan. This area is known for spotting celebrities and paparazzi in close pursuit. Alas, I did not see any, but I did see three girls and a Mini all participating in a fairly large photo shoot production.
While in Greenwich Village I stopped by a pizza place to try a true New York pizza. I was recommended John’s, but he doesn’t do just slices, so I went to Joe’s instead. I picked up two huge slices of pizza, the type you fold in half to eat, and found a place to enjoy it.
I got chatting to another couple of tourists, Emma and Leighton, both English. Leighton had just arrived in the USA and was headed west, Emma had just come from the West and was headed back to England.
We decided to go for a wander and try out some of the local pubs. They didn’t seem to be found as often as pubs are in England, but we settled for one offering 30 varieties of local beers. We hung out there and chatted for a while, as the rain encouraged us to stay. Seizing a dry patch we headed to High Line Park for a walk.
Continuing on our search for more pubs we walked a few blocks one way, then another, just to sample the nightlife in the various regions.
We stayed out til around midnight, before going our separate ways. I stopped for a quick shot of the day’s trash out on the footpath, a common sight on many streets after dark.
The hotel I am staying at has a club on the lower level, so I called by there for a few more drinks before heading to bed, knowing I’d be feeling unwell in the morning…
